Say hello to our new ear clinic in London!

Did you know that 1 in 5 people experience hearing loss?

Here at Infocus Opticians in Marylebone we’re passionate about keeping your senses in good health, which is why we’ve just just partnered up with Ear Care Clinics and launched our state-of-the-art ear clinic in London! Their highly experienced team of audiologists trained at The Royal National Throat, Nose and Ear Hospital, have fitted over 3,000 hearing aids and specialise in microsuction ear wax removal in London – so now, your eyes and ears couldn’t be in safer hands!

There are two types of hearing problems – permanent hearing loss ranging from mild to severe, and hearing loss caused by a build-up of ear wax inside your ear canal. These can usually be fixed by an array of different types of hearing aids or by removing the blockage.

Audiology Examination

Your appointment with your audiologist begins with a general chat about your health and any difficulties you might have been experiencing with your hearing. They will then examine your ears with an otoscope light to assess the state of your ear canals and see whether microsuction ear wax removal could be the solution to your hearing loss.

To see whether you require hearing aids, your audiologist will check your hearing threshold with an additional assessment. If they deem you could benefit from hearing aids, your audiologist will talk through your options and recommend the most appropriate hearing aids, after which a fitting will take place, as well as checking to see whether they are working effectively for your personal needs.

Microsuction

Microsuction is a painless procedure by which our in-house audiologists remove wax and debris from inside your ears. The treatment is simple and only takes a few minutes – our audiologist investigates the inside of your ear with a binaural microscope, which magnifies the area and helps us assess and treat your ears with utmost precision. They then use a low-pressure suction device – like a clinical vacuum cleaner – to gently remove any blockage inside your ear. The experienced Ear Care Clinic audiologists can even use a video otoscope to show you the state of your ears before and after the treatment.

Recommended by medical professionals, microsuction is the most effective ear wax removal solution on the market and has many benefits over other treatments such as ear syringing or irrigation.  These traditional techniques usually involve flushing ear wax out of the canal with water – a messy event!  But these methods are now often discouraged over microsuction by the National Institute for Health and Care.

Microsuction ear wax removal is both quick, painless and convenient, making it the safest way to remove wax even if you have an existing perforated ear drum or infection. Ear drops may not necessarily be required ahead of the procedure, though if the ear wax deposits are particularly hard, you may be advised you to use them for a couple of nights before the procedure to maximise its effectiveness.

Hearing Aids

The Ear Care Clinic audiologists are highly qualified to fit different types of hearing aids custom made to your requirements. These might vary depending on your level of hearing, aesthetic preferences and budget, and they can even come in colours to complement your hair or skin tone.

  • Invisible in Canal (or IIC) hearing aids sit deeper inside your ear than other solutions – they are suitable for those with mild or moderate hearing loss and designed to be invisible when worn.
  • Completely in Canal (CIC) hearing aids fit completely inside your ear canal, with only a small plastic handle visible to help you insert and remove it.
  • In the Canal (ITC) hearing aids are designed for those with slightly more severe hearing loss and a small portion of the instrument is visible on the outside of your ear.
  • In the Ear (ITE) hearing aids fit within the outer portion of the ear.
  • Receiver in Canal (RIC) hearing aids are barely visible when worn and use thin electrical wires instead of a plastic tube to reduce sound distortion.
  • Behind the Ear (BTE) hearing aids sit visibly behind the ear and are most suited to those with moderate to severe hearing loss.
