We have a responsibility to leave the world a better place than how we found it.

– Alessandro Lanaro, CEO of MODO

What if your glasses could plant trees? What if they could give the gift of sight to a stranger in the developing world? What if they could recycle steel and oil into stylish, timeless frames?

Modo Eco eyewear makes these ambitions a reality by crafting the greenest spectacles on the planet, and at Infocus Opticians we’re immensely proud to stock the latest collection of environmentally friendly sunglasses and glasses.

Passion for the natural world is embedded into the very fabric of the frames as – in a world first – 95% of the Modo Eco eyewear range is made from high quality recycled plastic and stainless steel, with the Eco Biobased frames forged from 63% renewable non-food oil. This outstanding achievement has been recognized by a prestigious Environmental Claims Validation for the company’s commitment to using recycled materials to craft sustainable sunglasses and glasses.

But although the environment is the label’s number one priority, the Eco collection has sacrificed none of the elegance, style and comfort beloved of its mother brand, Modo. Rich tortoiseshell acetates, trending wire frames and playful textures feature across the range, with the ability to adapt many styles with sustainable sunglasses clip-ons. Every pair of frames is engineered with invisible spring hinges, adjustable temple tips and a non-slip finish for seamless comfort, with a recycled stainless steel core ensuring durability.

Founder Alessandro Lanaro grew up amongst the Dolomites in Northern Italy surrounded by miles of awe-inspiring Cortina countryside. Later moving to New York, the designer established his boutique eyewear brand Modo and cultivated an international reputation for fashion-forward Italian-inspired spectacles. But despite this success his soul remained in the mountains and Lanaro was compelled to design a collection of eyewear that could be both stylish and sustainable. So in 2009 Modo Eco eyewear – Earth Conscious Optics – was launched as the world’s greenest spectacles brand.

But Lanaro’s efforts to create an ethical company don’t stop at the manufacturing process. He has also established a long-standing partnership with NGO ‘Trees for the Future,’ which plants a tree in the developing world for every pair of frames purchased – to date Eco customers have grown over half a million through this scheme. The company also promotes social responsibility through its packaging by nudging customers to donate their old glasses to the organization One Sight, which provides eyewear for poor communities in Africa and Southeast Asia who otherwise wouldn’t have access to eyewear.

Although its primary concern is to create planet-friendly glasses, Modo Eco eyewear is still the brainchild of one of eyewear’s most fashionable minds. Lanaro and his team of designers have created a premium range that is turning the heads of green campaigners and the international fashion elite alike. So as more of us take a keen interest in how our life choices impact on the planet, now is the perfect time to invest in a pair of environmentally friendly sunglasses or glasses.
